Project context
Termotasajero is a thermoelectric plant in northeastern Colombia generating 8 gigawatts of energy per day for the region. Its Technology Director, Freiman Acosta Pérez, identified early on the limitations of running SAP on premise: high hardware-failure risk, lack of in-house ABAP/Basis expertise, and dependency on ad-hoc external consultants without permanent contracts.
The challenge
Running SAP on premise carried operational risk and overruns:
High risk of hardware failure pulling the ERP out of service, with no DR plan or clear continuity strategy.
Internal team without ABAP or Basis profiles, relying on a script from 2002 and ad-hoc consultants for every incident.
Hardware reaching end-of-life with the need to avoid further capital investment in physical equipment.
Our solution
Pyramid accompanied Termotasajero through a full technology evolution:
Since 2011, addressing on-premise SAP administration gaps and providing expert ABAP and Basis support under a continuous model.
In 2015-16, migration of SAP servers to Google Cloud, avoiding reinvestment in obsolete hardware and eliminating local-operation risks.
Continuous Basis administration, system and machine operations, and exceptional response in critical situations (e.g. urgent same-day part import from the United States).
